More recently I have turned my focus to the material history of the photograph and its role in confounding unwritten or inaccessible histories. An ongoing project entitled Where the Earth Rises investigates the object-hood and fictive nature of archival materials. I mine institutional and estate collections and appropriate or re-perform materials to build a mythology of the creative woman. By mapping new connections to existing (though at times unwritten) histories they become interwoven with my own life and journeys, thus forming a new lineage wherein kinship is not proximal or biological but rather rooted in community and practice.
